Emotional Authority Labs [by SYNTHETICA]

Through reflection, technical exercises, and creative exploration, we’ll work with how personal experiences, memories and ideas can be translated into sound.

Each session introduces a new theme to explore different approaches to sound and music production:

[1] EMOTIONAL MAPPING & SHAPING - in the conscious & unconscious

[2] THIS IS NOT MUSIC? - synthesizing & manipulating sound

[3] STORYTELLING & SOUND POETRY - dissecting personal symbols in the fantastical!!

[4] INTUITIVE SOUND MAKING - ambient spaces with soundartist DALIN WALDO

EAL ends with a live session at Jolene on November 19th, where you're free to choose whether you want to share sounds created during the workshops, showcase
something of ur own, or simply come along n listen. We’ll round off the evening with a dj-set by some very dope artists! (more info TBA).

No previous experience or software knowledge is required to participate. The workshops will however have a limited number of spots so we can keep the
space supportive with enough time and attention for everyone participating.

EAL is FREE & open to everyone. But we particularly encourage women and gender minorities to sign up as part of our focus on creating more space for underrepresented voices in music production.

WHAT IS EAL ABOUT AND A RESPOND TO?
Emotional Authority Labs (EAL) is a workshop series by SYNTHETICA that creates accessible, emotionally grounded spaces to explore electronic music-making. The labs approach sound not primarily as a technical skill or finished product, but as a social and emotional practice: a way to translate inner narratives, experiment intuitively, and share creative processes with others.

EAL responds to a need for more inclusive and sustainable spaces within electronic music, where production contexts can often feel male-dominated, hierarchical or shaped by pressure to perform. While the labs seek to be as open and inclusive as possible, EAL especially encourages women and gender minorities to take part, as part of SYNTHETICA’s aim to create more space for underrepresented voices in
music production.

Through guided exercises, collective listening, reflection and practical introductions to music production, participants are supported in developing confidence, artistic agency and their own relationship to sound - regardless of previous experience. The purpose is to foster a non-hierarchical creative community centred on care, curiosity and exchange. By prioritising presence, listening and process over perfection, EAL lowers barriers to participation and opens up alternative ways of learning, creating and belonging within the electronic music scene. The series concludes with a shared public presentation, celebrating both individual expression and the community that has emerged through the labs.
